Increasing numbers of people are suffering from endocrine disorders including type 2 diabetes. Risk factors and related complications are only beginning to be understood as current treatments are extending the lives of patients for longer. Emerging complications can affect cognition, kidneys, feet, cardiovascular, reproductive and visual systems. Thus, both the illness and co-morbidities are significant burdens and impact negatively on patient lives and healthcare systems.
It is with this focus that BMC Endocrine Disorders launches this special issue summarizing and exploring the current state and future perspectives for risk factors and complications in endocrine disorders.
We welcome Research Articles, Case Reports, Commentaries, Debates and Study Protocols on all aspects of research into this field, including translational science, data mining and artificial intelligence, clinical investigations, technical advances, epidemiological studies, and clinical trials.
