Complete remission	HbA1c < 5.7%, with no need for diabetes medication for at least 1 year of follow-up
Partial remission	HbA1c 5.7–6.4%, with no need for diabetes medication for at least 1 year of follow-up
Optimal control	HbA1c < 7% with or without diabetes medication.
No remission	HbA1c > 6.5% or active hypoglycaemic treatment
