The results of the mixed-meal tolerance test (panel a: area under the curve; panel b: peak C-peptide) of the different study groups (33 with type 2, 32 with LADA and 30 with type 2 diabetes), stratified according to the duration of diabetes mellitus. Footnote: Triangles, circles and squares denote mean values with 95% CI of C-peptide in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and LADA, respectively. The differences between LADA and type 1 and type 2 diabetes are statistically significant except for the comparison of the peak and AUCCP of LADA and type 2 diabetes in subjects with a shorter diabetes duration (6 to 18 months). The number of patients treated with insulin was 8 in the group of type 2 diabetes and 20 in the group of LADA. For further details, see Table 1, and Additional files1 and2.
